Environmental Groups Threaten New Lawsuit Over Oil Drilling Proposals For Los Padres National Forest

A coalition of environmental groups is threatening new legal action against some federal agencies over a plan to allow new oil and gas development in parts of the Los Padres National Forest.

It’s the latest salvo by Los Padres ForestWatch, the Center for Biological Diversity, and the group Defenders of Wildlife. They’re upset over proposed new surface and slant drilling on parts of 52,000 acres of the forest in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties.

In response to a past suit by the groups, the Forest Service revised its analysis of impacts on endangered species. The groups now contend the federal government hasn’t done enough, and has taken the first step towards a new suit.
