Proposal Calls For Using Surplus Ventura County Building As Community Clinic

A vacant building owned by Ventura County could potentially become a home for a non-profit clinic, as well as a number of community groups under a proposal by a county supervisor who represents the area.

The county recently vacated a 14,000 square foot building on the 2300 block of Royal Avenue in Simi Valley. It consolidated three separate offices in the city into one complex on Madera Road. County Supervisor Peter Foy is suggesting that the old county building on Royal Avenue be leased to the Free Clinic of Simi Valley, which currently is using two locations in the city.

The non-profit serves more than 13,000 patients a year, but its operations are hampered by the split locations. With the clinic only needed about 10,000 square feet of the building, the proposal calls for using the remaining space as a hub for non-profits in the community, with office space possibly for several organizations.

County supervisors will look at the proposal for the property when they hold a special meeting in Oak Park Tuesday night.
