Bill By South Coast Legislator Calling For Tougher Cyber-Security On Governor's Desk

A proposed new law by a Ventura County legislator to toughen the state’s cyber-defenses for things like the power grid has been passed by the state legislature, and is now on the Governor’s desk awaiting his action.

AB 1841 authored by Democratic Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin of Thousand Oaks would require the State Office of Emergency Services to develop plans to boost the online defenses of public networks. It also calls for the state office to work with private entities to boost their security.

Irwin says a major concern is protecting key infrastructure like things the power grid and water systems.
