Rey Fire Passes 31,000 Acres Burned; Containment Up To 37%

Firefighters continue to make progress this morning towards full containment of Santa Barbara County’s Rey Wildfire.

The nearly week old blaze has charred more than 31,000 acres, and is 37% contained. Aircraft are helping to slow the spread of the flames. 15 helicopters, as well as some air tankers as needed are being used to target hot spots, and to help ground crews establish containment lines.

The fire began last Thursday afternoon, threatening some of the scattered homes and ranches in the Paradise Road area before pushing into wilderness areas.

No structures have been reported damaged. More than 2,000 people are now involved in the firefight. The hope is to have full containment by the middle of next week.
