Wife Gets 50 Years To Life Sentence In Ventura County For Killing Husband, Former Olympian

A Ventura County woman received a 50 years to life sentence for killing her husband, a former Olympic medalist and local high school athletic director.

Jane Lout had been convicted in March of first-degree murder for the August. 2009 shooting death of Dave Laut at the couple’s Oxnard home. Laut won a bronze medal in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics for the shot put, and was Athletic Director at Hueneme High School at the time of his death.

The 59 year old woman’s defense team argued that she had been abused, and that the killing was in self-defense. Prosecutors noted that she shot her husband six times, and what they say was a brutal, pre-mediated killing.  They say she then hid the gun, and called police to report a prowler at their home to try to cover up what happened.
