Two Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies Injured Arresting Burglary Suspect

Two Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies are recovering today from injuries they received while trying to capture a burglary suspect.

It happened just after seven a.m. yesterday, on the 3900 block of Via Real in Carpinteria.  Deputies arriving to check out the call found Sage Wyttenberg hiding in a creek bed. They say the Santa Barbara man appeared to be under the influence of drugs, and arrested him after they found he had items from some nearby burglaries. They say the 33 year old man tried to escape twice from a patrol car, and on the third time got out of the patrol car he was in, and attacked the two deputies transporting him.

The deputies say Wyttenberg picked up a metal pipe on the ground, and used it as a weapon. Despite the use of a Taser, the man continued to attack the officers. More deputies arrived on scene, and Wyttenberg was subdued.

The officers were treated at a hospital for multiple injuries. Wyttenberg was arrested on multiple charges ranging from resisting arrest to assault on a peace officer.
