Ventura County has confirmed its first case of Zika virus.
Ventura County Public Health officials say the virus was confirmed with a female who’s not suspected of being pregnant. Officials say the symptoms were mild, and the woman didn’t need to be admitted to a hospital.
The type of mosquito which transmit the virus isn’t believed to live in Ventura County. However, state health officials say the virus can be transmitted by people who actively have it through sexual contact. As a precaution, though county health officials are warning people to avoid mosquito bites, and to take steps to eliminate mosquitos from their yards.
