The Santa Barbara Zoo’s newest resident is making its public debut this weekend.
Parker is a Masai Giraffe who was born August 6th. The newborn giraffe already checked in at 6’8” tall, and 171 pounds during a health check this past Monday.
Zoo officials say while Parker is set to go into the giraffe exhibit area for public viewing Saturday, visitors may or may not be able to see him depending on whether he is nursing or not.
The zoo is part of a breeding program among North American Zoos which is in support of a Giraffe Species Survival plan. Different zoos will trade giraffes as part of efforts to encourage breeding, and biodiversity.
