Refunds Offered For South Coast Fireworks Show Which Was A No-Show

More than a dozen fireworks shows lit up the skies above the Central and South Coast last night. But, for thousands of spectators awaiting a show in one South Coast community, the show turned out to be a dud.

The show at Camarillo High School had to be cancelled at the last minute due to what’s being called a catastrophic firing switch failure. The Ventura County Fire Department requires that all shows be controlled electronically. No hand firing, or open flame launches are allowed because of safety reasons. City of Camarillo officials say the show’s operator, Exposhows Incorporated, was unable to repair the control switch.

The thousands of people on hand for the show were told it was cancelled, and left disappointed. There are no plans at this point for a make-up show.

City officials say people can get refunds for their tickets at Camarillo City Hall. The show’s main sponsor was the Camarillo/Somis/ Pleasant Valley Lions Club, which uses profits from the annual show to support a variety of community programs.
