Pine Fire in Los Padres National Forest burns more than 1800 acres

Firefighters continue to prevent major growth in a wildfire burning in a wilderness area of the Los Padres National Forest, in Ventura County.

The Pine Fire has burned just over 1800 acres of trees, brush, and chaparral in the mountains about 11 miles northeast of Ojai. It’s now 15% contained. The area is so rugged firefighters have to be flown into the fire dozen by helicopter. More than 600 firefighters, aided by 10 helicopters are battling the fire, which started last Thursday. The fire is in such a remote area that pack mules are being used to resupply the firefighters.

No structures have been reported damaged. No evacuations have been necessary, but some campgrounds in the area have been closed.
