No Containment For Nearly 1,600-Acre Pine Fire in Los Padres National Forest

Los Padres National Forest
Pine Fire grows To nearly 1,600 acres with 0% containment

Several hundred firefighters continue to battle a brush fire burning in a remote area of the Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County, which has now grown to almost 1,600 acres. It still stands at no containment.

The Pine Fire that started on Thursday morning is located about 11 miles north of Ojai. Authorities say heavy fuels and steep, inaccessible terrain are making  it difficult for firefighters to stop the spread of the wildfire. The area is so remote that crews and their equipment and supplies can only get in by helicopter.

There are no buildings in danger. However, there have been voluntary evacuations of the Camp Scheideck community, Reyes Creek Campground and the Grade Valley area. Officials have closed Pine Mountain Recreational Area at Highway 33, Reyes Creek Campground, Reyes Creek Trailhead, Piedra Blanca Trailhead, Chorro Grande Trailhead and Grade Valley Road junction at Lockheed Valley Road.

No word on what caused the fire.
