Fire In Los Padres National Forest In Ventura County Hits 300 Acres; No Structures In Danger

(VCFD Air Unit)
Pine Fire continues to burn in Los Padres National Forest

A fire in the rugged backcountry of the Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County has grown to about 300 acres.

The Pine Fire started yesterday morning in the mountains about 15 miles northwest of Ojai. Because of the rugged, isolated terrain, firefighters are relying heavily on aircraft to try to stem the growth of the fire. Some firefighters were flown in by helicopter today to help battle the blaze.

No structures are reported to be in danger.  The fire is burning northeast, away from Ojai.

National Forest officials closed Pine Mountain Road at Highway 33, as well as the Pine Mountain and Reyes Peak Campgrounds. There’s no word yet on the cause of the fire.
