Santa Barbara Gets New Police Chief

San Diego Police Captain Lori Luhnow selected as Santa Barbara's new Chief of Police

The City of Santa Barbara is getting the first female police chief in its history.

The city hired a longtime San Diego Police Department veteran, Lori Luhnow, as its new top cop.

Luhnow is currently a Captain with the San Diego Police Department.  She's been with the department for 27 years, rising through the ranks from a patrol officer to head a regional police academy, as well as overseeing in-service training for more than 2500 members of the department.

Luhnow will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of longtime Santa Barbara Police Chief Cam Sanchez.

Luhnow will take over as head of the 200 person Santa Barbara agency July 18th.
