Three County Supervisors Win Re-Election In Region; Two Other Runoffs Set

Voters re-elected three County Supervisors in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, and set the stage for November runoffs for two other seats.

In Ventura County, First District Supervisor Steve Bennett is keeping his post, defeating challenger David Grau by a 60% to 40% margin. Ventura County’s Third District race was a big one, with the retirement of longtime Supervisor Kathy Long leading to a field of seven for the seat. Carla Castilla and Kelly Long were the top vote getters, setting the stage for a November runoff. And, Ventura County’s Fifth District Supervisor, John Zaragoza, had the easiest race of all. He was unopposed.

In Santa Barbara County, three Board of Supervisors seats were on the ballot. The First District seat was wide open. Longtime State Assemblyman Das Williams defeated Jennifer Christensen for the seat by a 59% to 41% margin. In Santa Barbara County’s Third District, the retirement of Doreen Farr led to a field of five candidates. Joan Hartman and Bruce Porter easily outdistanced the rest of the field, and will face each other in November. And, in Santa Barbara County’s Fourth District incumbent supervisor Peter Adam fended off a challenge from Eduardo Ozeta, with Adam getting 69% of the vote.
