Runoff Set In 24th Congressional District Race; Brownley has Strong Showing In 26th District

It’s the first time in nearly two decades that the 24th Congressional District, which covers Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, as well as parts of Ventura County has been a wide open seat. Nine candidates were on the ballot seeking to replace Democratic Congresswoman Lois Capps, who is retiring after 18 years in office. Voters narrowed the field to two. Democrat Salud Carbajal will definitely be on the November ballot, garnering nearly 33% of the overall vote. It appears he will be facing Republican Justin Fareed, who leads fellow Republican Katcho Acadjian by more than 2300 votes for the second runoff spot.

In Ventura County 26th Congressional District, Democratic incumbent Julia Brownley had a strong showing towards efforts for a third term term, topping  Republican Rafael Dagnesses by a two thirds margin, and setting the stage for the November election.

In the 25th Congressional District, which is mostly in Los Angeles County, but includes a small slice of Ventura County, incumbent Republican Congressman Steve Knight will face off against Democrat Bryan Caforio in November.
