Five Central, South Coast Community Colleges Get State Grants To Help New Students

Santa Barbara City College one of five campuses in region to get grant money to help new students with basic skills

Five community colleges on the Central and South Coasts are going to get a combined total of more than seven million dollars from a new state program intended to help improve the success rate of first time students who need help with basic skills like writing.

Moorpark and Oxnard Colleges, and Santa Barbara City College will each get $1.5 million dollars, while Oxnard and Cuesta Colleges will get $1.4 million dollar each from the program. Democratic Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin of Thousand Oaks authored AB 770, which led to $60 million dollars for the statewide program.
