Ventura County Firefighters Get Upper Hand On Blaze Outside Of Ventura

(VCFD Photo)
Brush fire blackens about 20 acres of land northeast of Ventura

Ventura County firefighters have the upper hand on a brush fire in the rugged hills northeast of the City of Ventura.

The fire was discovered in the Long Canyon area just after 11 this morning. The fire moved rapidly through the canyon, but firefighters aided by helicopters and air tankers were able to stop its growth at around 20 acres. No homes were threatened, but firefighters were concerned about some high capacity power lines in the area.

The fire is now 20% contained, with full containment projected for six a.m. tomorrow morning. At its peak, about 250 firefighters battled the blaze, but most of the crews have since been released.
