Ventura County Gets $55 Million Dollars For New Jail Complex To House Sick, Mentally Ill Inmates

Ventura County has received some big news about its efforts to provide better facilities for sick and mentally ill jail inmates.

The County had received a $25 million dollar state grant towards a new $61 million dollar, 64 bed complex at its Todd Road Jail. The County had to supply a 10% match, or $6.1 million dollars, but it was still $29 million dollars short. However, the City and County of San Francisco rejected a state grant for a similar project, so the state redirected the money to Ventura County so it will now get the full $55 million dollar it had requested.

Ventura County Supervisors formally accepted the grant next week, allowing the project to proceed.  Construction is expected to take three to four years.
