Santa Barbara Produced Documentary On Channel Islands To Air Statewide On Noncommercial TV

Documentary about Channel Islands to air locally, statewide on television

A documentary about the Channel Islands which attracted thousands of people to its premiere screenings in Ventura and Santa Barbara earlier this year is coming to your television set this month.

“West of The West” will air on Los Angeles based noncommercial television station KCET. It will air on three consecutive Monday nights, May 16th, 23rd, and 30th.

The documentary is also airing on PBS stations around the state, and plans call for it to be distributed free to the state’s schools next year. A group of educators are developing a curriculum to go with the mini-series. The documentary examines the history of the islands through 14 stories about different aspects of their landscape, people, animals, and sea life.

It was locally produced by filmmakers Sam Tyler, Peter Seaman, and Brent Sumner, with an original score by composer Jesse Rhodes.
