A South Coast school for kids on the autism spectrum has a new home.
A $15 million dollar, 30,000 square foot building in Camarillo is the new home of the Ventura County Office of Education's' Triton Academy. It will serve students with autism in 3rd through 12th grade.
The two story building on the 5200 block of Adolfo Road is named after a longtime advocate of special needs programs in Ventura County. It's called the Mary Samples Education Services Center. Samples headed the county's special education efforts for more than a decade before retiring in 2018.
The new school won't be able to officially open to students until coronavirus restrictions for in-person instruction are lifted. Triton had been located at a Pleasant Valley School District campus, but it had to move after the district once again needed what had been a vacant school.
