Congressional Leaders Make New Call For Action Over COVID-19 Crisis At Lompoc Federal Prison Complex

Some of the state’s congressional leaders are pushing the federal government to do more about the coronavirus outbreak at the federal prison complex in Santa Barbara County which has left three people dead.

More than a thousand inmates and staff members at the complex outside of Lompoc have tested positive for the virus.   Three inmates have died.

Democratic Congressman Salud Carbajal of Santa Barbara, along with U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris sent the latest in a string of letters to the head of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  They are demanding more action, saying the agency needs to be more aggressive in its approach to the crisis.

The letter asserts the federal agency took too long to respond to the crisis, and that a lack of inaction allowed the outbreak to grow to more than a thousand people.
