The companies which owned and operated a wastewater treatment facility in Ventura County which was the scene of an accident which injured dozens pled no contest to eight criminal charges. Santa Clara Waste Company and Green Compass Environmental Solutions were the corporate defendants in the case.
In November of 2014, there was an explosion and release of toxic fumes from their facility just outside of Santa Paula. The charges included failing to warn of a serious concealed danger, to trying to dissuade a witness from reporting a crime.
As a result of the no contest pleas, the companies will pay nearly $2.8 million dollars in restitution. Eight individuals entered pleas in connection with charges they faced from the incident.
