KCLU Wins Second National Edward R. Murrow Award

KCLU News has won a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Breaking News coverage.

The station received the award for KCLU News Director Lance Orozco's on-scene coverage of the 2019 Maria brush fire in Ventura County, which forced thousands of evacuations before it was controlled.

The station was honored by the national Redio Television Digital News Association in the category of "Breaking News" in the small market radio category.

The station has won more than 40 regional Murrow Awards, but this is only the second National Murrow in its history. Because of the pandemic, the annual awards show in New York City was converted into a virtual show, during which the award was announced.

Orozco also won a National Society of Professional Journalists award for "Breaking News Coverage" in small market radio in 2020 for his field reporting on Ventura County's Maria and Easy brush fires.
