Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and a business partner have donated a 40 acre parcel of land in Zuma Canyon to the public, which will close the final major link in a more than sixty mile long trail between Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.

The $500,000 land donation will help complete the Backbone Trail, in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation area.

Over the last 40 years, public and non-profit agencies have acquired more than 180 parcels valued at $100 million dollars to not only preserve some key Southern California land, but to make the trail possible.

Plans call for using the Backbone Trail as the base for the eventual development 500 miles of trails in Ventura, and Los Angeles counties.
