Forum On Environmental Impacts Of 2015 Santa Barbara County Oil Spill Set For Wednesday

Forum set for Wednesday at UCSB's Bren Hall on 2015 Refugio Oil Spill

It’s been nearly a year since an oil pipeline ruptured in Santa Barbara County near Refugio State Beach, creating a massive 140,000 gallon oil spill.

The cleanup took months, and cost about $100 million dollars. Some experts say the total cost including settlement of lawsuits could cost upwards of $250 million dollars.

This week, a panel of experts will look at the spill’s environmental impacts then, and now. The event is called “One Year After The Refugio Oil Spill-Where Do We Stand Now?” The panel will take place at UC Santa Barbara’s Bren Hall at 11:30 Wednesday morning. It’s free, and open to the public.
