Earthquake Early Warning Network Could Be Up And Running For Central, South Coasts By 2018
The Central and South Coasts are earthquake country.
Just this month, central Ventura County was rocked by a swarm of small quakes centered near Ojai. The major concern is about the so-called “Big One,” a large scale quake with the potential to cause serious damage.
Seismologists are developing an early warning network which could give us a few seconds warning if a major quake is on the way, and say if they get the final funding needed, it could be online in about a year.
