Coronavirus Case Count On Central, South Coasts Now Tops 65,000 Since Start Of Pandemic

The number of coronavirus cases on the Central and South Coasts continues to grow, topping the 65,000 mark.

Ventura County reported 400 new cases Wednesday, Santa Barbara County 280, and San Luis Obispo County a record 576.  However, San Luis Obispo County officials say part of their high daily total may stem from a backlog in reporting over the last few days.  Wednesday’s total for the three counties was 1256 cases.

14 additional deaths were reported in the region, pushing the overall total since the start of the pandemic to 519.  Ventura County is up to 280 deaths, with five reported Wednesday.  Santa Barbara County reached 157, with one more case.  And, it was an especially difficult day for San Luis Obispo County, with eight new deaths moving its total to 82.

Public health officials say we aren’t seeing the effects yet of a potential Christmas surge.  They are urging people to stay at home, and not gather for New Year’s, saying get togethers could fuel another bump in numbers.
