Central, South Coasts Top 1,000 Daily New Coronavirus Cases Again; Eight Deaths Reported

The COVID-19 surge continues on the Central and South Coasts, with more than a thousand new cases reported Friday.  Ventura County had 715 additional cases, Santa Barbara County 186, and San Luis Obispo County 191, fot 1092 overall.  The latest numbers push the region’s total past the 52,000 mark.

Eight new deaths were reported in in the three counties Friday.  Ventura County had three, San Luis Obispo County three, and Santa Barbara County two.  It brings the overall total to 416.

The hospital intensive care unit capacity for the 11 county Southern California region which includes Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties stands at o%.  Ventura County’s capacity is 2.2%, and Santa Barbara County is at 30%

Santa Barbara County officials had some good news.  They say the federal government’s approval of the Moderna vaccine means there will soon be 6,000 doses available for use in the county.
