Santa Barbara County has set the stage for the county’s K-12 schools to reopen.
The new health order says schools which want to offer in-person instruction can do it with COVID-19 safety modifications as well as restrictions on gatherings. The process includes creation of a reopening plan, and going through a public health department review process.
The decision on whether to continue remote learning, or pursue reopening with in-person, or a hybrid in-person/remote learning approach, lies with each school district.
Tuesday night, the Santa Barbara School Board decided it would reopen K-12 schools in January. The district had considered reopening elementary schools this fall, and middle and high schools in January. Officials decided to take the additional time to insure they are properly prepared.
