Tough Coronavirus Milestone On Central, South Coasts; Death Toll Hits 200

The Central and South Coasts have reached a grim milestone in the battle against coronavirus.

Three additional coronavirus related deaths reported Wednesday pushed the total to 200.  There was one each in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties.

Nearly half of the deaths, 98, have been in Ventura County.  Ventura County Public Health Officer Dr. Robert Levin says this is yet more evidence of the danger the virus poses in our backyard.  He says it’s more than double the annual death toll during recent decades from influenza.

Santa Barbara County has had 82 coronavirus related deaths, and San Luis Obispo County 20.  More than two thirds of the 200 deaths were older adults with preexisting health conditions.
