Eight Additional Coronavirus Related Deaths Reported On Central, South Coasts

Friday was a tough day in the battle against coronavirus on the Central and South Coasts, with eight deaths and more than 200 new cases reported. Ventura County has had seven additional deaths, and Santa Barbara County one more.

Ventura County has had 89 deaths since the start of the pandemic, Santa Barbara County 69, and San Luis Obispo County 15.  The total for the three counties stands at 173, with most older adults with preexisting health conditions.

215 new coronavirus cases have been reported in the region with 111 in Ventura County, 58 in Santa Barbara County and 46 in San Luis Obispo County.  The overall total stands at just under 17,000 cases, with most people already recovered.

County health officials warned this week that numbers may be off and on the low side, because of a technical issue in the state health department’s data base.  State officials say the problem has been fixed, and they hope to have backlogged data updated by Monday.
