California has seen the biggest one day surge in new coronavirus cases since the start of the crisis, and the Central and South Coasts are part of it.
There’s growing concern among health officials in California. The state is reporting 6,000 new cases Tuesday, the biggest one day total ever.
They had expected a spike in cases due to reopenings, but they are worried about the size of the increase.
Ventura County reported 131 new cases Tuesday, and Santa Barbara County 63. It pushes the region’s total past 5000, to 5123 cases.
Ventura County has 2161 cases, Santa Barbara County is at 2509, and San Luis Obispo County 453 cases. About a thousand of Santa Barbara County’s cases are linked to the federal prison complex in Lompoc.
Most people have already recovered, but there have been 71 coronavirus related deaths in the region.
