'Awesome views' and a safe place to walk and cycle: New South Coast trail edges closer

The proposal is for a new trail and bridge
City of Carpinteria
A proposal calls for a new trail and bridge in the Carpinteria area.

A proposed new trail for cyclists and pedestrians on the South Coast is set for a key review.

There’s less than a mile between the City of Carpinteria and Rincon Beach County Park but bicyclists and pedestrians currently have to use the 101 Highway shoulder.

Matt Roberts, Parks & Recreation Director for the City of Camarillo says the proposed Carpinteria Rincon Trailsegment would provide improved public coastal access and recreational opportunities.

"It's been on the books for decades really," Roberts told KCLU.

"The trail will have awesome views of the Santa Barbara channel, the beach down at Rincon and the Channel Islands Marine National Park.

"In addition to that, it won't be on the highway so you'll enjoy some sanctity," he said.

The City of Carpinteria Architectural Review Board is scheduled to consider the proposed Carpinteria Rincon Multi-Use Trail on Thursday evening.
