New Features Coming To Historic South Coast Theatre

Even though it was built in 1924, there's still a little work to be done on Santa Barbara's historic Granada Theatre.

Work has begun on a new plaza adjacent to the theatre.

"Plaza Granada will add a welcoming entry to the cultural heart of Santa Barbara," says President of the Granada Theatre Caren Rager.

Philanthropist Michael Towbes had identified the plaza expansions as a possibility years ago, but several different property owners had in interest in the area.

Now that their stakes have been resolved, the final product will be an area for performers to come and go, as well as a decorative welcoming area for those headed to the Theatre itself.

Architect Brian Cearnal says the project will be a reflection of the Granada itself, and a celebration of the performing arts.

The two million dollar project is looking to be completed in June.

Andy worked at KCLU from 2016 until 2022.
