Public Input Wanted To Help Develop A Backbone Trail From Guadalupe To Gaviota

Santa Barbara County Trails Council Website

As people continue to look for ways to spend time outdoors during the coronavirus shutdown, one South Coast organization is looking for help to unify a lengthy trail system.

The Santa Barbara County Trails Council’s new study is aimed at developing a backbone trail from Guadalupe to Gaviota, along the scenic coastline.

While it is currently possible to travel that distance via the existing system, Mark Wilkinson with the Trails Council says that it’s not exactly straightforward.

“Right now there’s a variety of options, and they’re all good, and you can -- on your own -- choose whichever one you want," Wilkinson says.

"What we’re looking to do is have a designated route, so that amenities, facilities, signing, all these things work in connection.”

The Trails Council is looking for the public’s help to develop their route, and interested hikers and bikers can contribute to an interactive map the council is putting together.

You can find a link to the map here.
