Santa Barbara Aims To Revitalize Struggling Downtown With New Tax To Pay For Events

Despite protest from some businesses, a proposed "Downtown Business Tax" is expected to get the support of the Santa Barbarba City Council.

The money from the tax is slated to help the Downtown Organization with events that generate foot traffic and revenue in a specific area of downtown Santa Barbara.

In that area, there are 1317 businesses.

While the percentage a business pays varies based on the nature of the business, ultimately it would be a percentage of the business license tax.
