South Coast Officials Warn Drivers Of Impaired Driving During Holiday Season

First responders met on the South Coast to review the range of hazards hoiday travelers could face in the upcoming days while driving.

They listed alcohol, which is typical. They also said that those who are under the influence of cannabis are impaired while driving, which they can see when they pull people over.

They added that using medication can unwittingly impair a driver, and if a person is combining two or more of the above factors, they should absolutely get a designated driver.

The CHP Commander says that just because cannabis is legal, that doesn't mean people should feel like they have a free ticket to use it and drive.

The Commander advised drivers to buckle up, slow down, stay off their cell phones, and designate a driver if necessary.

She also warned about areas in Ventura and Santa Barbara, as well as San Marcos pass, that could get dangerous in case of rain, due to mud on the highway or falling rocks.
