South Coast Resident Attempts To Break 400 MPH Speed Record

A man on the South Coast is feeling the need for speed, and has been for 10 years.

Arley Langlo has spent a decade building a special racecar to go on the Bonneville Salt Flats race course in Utah.

This week, as part of speed week, a variety of cars in different divisions will flock to the racing area to test their speeds on the five-mile course.

In the past, Langlo has reached speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.

This year, Langlo is hoping his streamliner will take him twice as fast.

"Class record that we're in, is 423 [mph], so we've got to go over that," says Langlo. "There's other similiar cars that have gone well over 400, so it's capable. It's up to us to get everything right."

Langlo and his vehicle are expected on the course Thursday afternoon.
