Traffic Accident Causes Highway Closure And Power Outage On South Coast

Vehicles are getting through after an hours-long closure on a very busy section of Highway 192 in Santa Barbara Tuesday night.

A rollover traffic accident sheared a large power pole on Foothill near Willowglen.

The Honda sedan involved in the accident had a mashed front end and broken windows. The driver, who went to Cottage Hospital, was not said to be seriously injured according to a Santa Barbara City Fire Captain who was on the scene.

The pole was carrying utility and telecommunication wires, which were all over the road and the nearby hillside.

Utility company Southern California Edison said that the accident caused an outage for 2400 customers, though most had power returned by the morning after an all night emergency repair effort.
