Roadblocks Moved On Damaged South Coast Highway To Ease Burden On Commuters, Businesses

With the damage on one section of Highway 154 in Santa Barbara County exasperated by recent flooding due to a blocked culvert, the long term closure has caused grief for some commuters, businesses, and residents in the area.

Roadblocks on the Santa Barbara side, set at the bottom of San Marcos Pass earlier this week, have been moved up to the Rancho San Marcos golf course, just past Paradise Road.

That allows commuters to get up the pass to visit recreation areas, the Santa Ynez River, and businesses, including the landmark Cold Spring Tavern.

On the valley side, travellers can get to Cachuma Lake but no further, as a result of the hard closure.

Some drivers say that GPS is directing them into the closure area. In response, California Highway Patrol says to follow the many posted detour signs.
