Containment up to 50% on Santa Barbara County's Canyon brush fire

Even as firefighters try to cope with the sadness over losing one of their own in a traffic accident, they are continuing to make progress in dealing with Santa Barbara County’s Canyon Fire.

The 12,000 acre blaze on Vandenberg Air Force Base is now 50% contained.

More than a thousand firefighters are involved in efforts to stop the fire, which has been burning since Saturday night.

No structures have been destroyed.

One firefighter was killed, and a second injured when a water tanker used for firefighting overturned Wednesday morning on Highway 246 just outside of Lompoc.

Ventura County firefighter Ryan Osler was pronounced dead at the scene.
