Ventura County prosecutors filed criminal charges against a County Sheriff’s deputy accused of stealing prescription medications from a medicine disposal dropoff bin at a Sheriff’s station.
Prosecutors say three misdemeanor charges have been filed against Matthew Joseph Volpe, including petty theft and possession of controlled substances.
The Agoura Hills man has been with the department for more than two decades.
He was suspended after the allegations surfaced in May. At the time, investigators said they had surveillance video of the senior deputy removing items from the public dropoff bin for unwanted medicines at the East Valley Sheriff’s Station in Thousand Oaks.
