South Coast Leaders Meet To Discuss $450 Million Freeway Expansion Project

There's still one more section of the 101 Freeway that needs to be widened from two lanes in each direction to three.

That's part of a big traffic relief plan that's been in the works since the 1980's.

That's a 10 mile stretch from Carpinteria to Montecito.

To do that, two freeway bridges and one creek bridge have to be rebuilt, widened and set back to clear room for the lanes.

The Chamber of Commerce and business leaders met Wednesday night to talk about the timeline.

The work begins in the fall; whens it's done, there will be overpasses that have more room for cars, pedestrians and bikes to safely share the road.

The overall cost of the project is $435 million over a projected four years.
