California Strawberry Festival Underway On South Coast
About 60,000 people are expected to attend a festival this weekend that celebrates a fruit grown on the South Coast. It’s the 33rd Annual California Strawberry Festival that takes place this weekend at Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard.
"It's probably the best thing to happen to Oxnard, where we feature the strawberry and invite families to come enjoy this two-day festival," said Kim Gibas, the festival's chairperson.
The event features everything strawberry. Attendees can nosh on strawberry nachos, deep fried strawberries and strawberry pizza. while drinking strawberry beer. And, they can take part in the strawberry tart toss, the strawberry pie eating contest and the strawberry relay.
The festival also features live music on two stages, more than 200 arts and craft exhibitors, cooking demonstrations and a Strawberryland for Kids with rides and attractions.
Proceeds will benefit local charities and will provide scholarships.
