Cal State Trustees Choose New President For Cal State Channel Islands

Erika Beck selected as new President of Cal State Channel Islands

A provost and vice president of a state college in Nevada has been selected as the new president of Cal State Channel Islands.

Erika Beck will take over as head of the Camarillo-based university beginning this summer.

Beck is currently Provost, and Executive Vice President for Nevada State College in Henderson, Nevada.  Before that, she was a faculty fellow at UC San Diego, and an instructor at Grossmont College in San Diego.

She has a doctorate in experimental psychology from UCSD.

She will be Cal State Channel Islands first female president, and only the second president in the university's history.  Dr. Richard Rush, who opened the university in 2002, is retiring this June after 15 years as its president.Cal State trustees conducted a nationwide search to find a replacement for Rush.

Meanwhile, the new president of Cal State Chico is currently the provost, and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Cal State Channel Islands. Gayle Hutchinson will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Chico’s current President, Paul Zingg, in June. Hutchinson is no stranger to the Northern California university, spending two decades at the campus in various capacities.
