Alisa Sikelianos-Carter

Alisa Sikelianos-Carter
The Alisa Sikelianos-Carter exhibition at SLOMA will promote an emerging female artist of color whose works are inspired by the stories of her Black ancestors and traditionally Black hairstyles, centered on ancestral power and mythology. With her opulent, large-scale paintings she creates a mythology that is centered on Black resistance and utilizes the body as a sight of alchemy and divinity.
Alisa Sikelianos-Carter is a mixed-media painter from upstate New York. She has been awarded residencies at Fountainhead Residency, Millay Arts, NXTHVN, Vermont Studio Center, Wassaic Project, Yaddo, Art Omi, Headlands Center for the Arts, and The Golden Foundation.
