"I Want the Wide American Earth: An Asian Pacific American Story" exhibit at the Museum of Ventura County

A national exhibit, that explores the history of Asian Pacific Americans, makes a stop in the South Coast.

“[It] Highlights the history of Asian Pacific Americans whether they were born here or immigrated here,” said Stefanie Davis, who works at the Museum of Ventura County in downtown Ventura.

This Smithsonian Institution exhibit is called “I Want the Wide American Earth: An Asian Pacific American Story” and features eight-foot-tall panels rich with information and pictures.

“It’s good to see a background on where we came from and where we are going,” said Jennifer Swanton of Oxnard who is part Japanese, Chinese and Korean and came to the museum to tour the exhibit. P

eppered among the panels are local artifacts from Asian Pacific Americans living in Ventura County including clothing, china, artwork and even musical instruments.

The exhibit runs until August 28th.
