Acclaimed Group Brings Modern Dance To Thousands Of Santa Barbara County Students

The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater performs "Revelations" at Santa Barbara's Arlington Theater in a special performance for some 2,000 elementary school students

A modern dance company that sells out theaters around the world put on a huge VIP show for an audience in Santa Barbara yesterday.

Thousands of children on the South Coast attended the free private performance by the legendary Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Santa Barbara.

The more than half century old company mixes modern dance with African American cultural expression. For this special children's show, it performed Revelations, a tale of faith, and tenacity as the story takes the audience from slavery to freedom.

The troupe incorporates educational performances like this one in Santa Barbara into its tours.

UC Santa Barbara’s Arts and Lectures brought the company to Santa Barbara for a pair of performances Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

The Children’s Creative Project, which a Santa Barbara County Education Office program, presented the free program for the kids.
