A South Coast city approved a unique proposal to host a college in part of its city hall complex.

The Ventura City Council last night approved a deal for Brooks Institute to lease more than 20,000 square feet of space in the City Hall North complex, as well as some space in the Eric Stanley Gardner Building.

Brooks is currently located outside of Ventura, off of Highway 33.

The college wanted to have a more urban campus.

By the end of the year, more than 300 students and faculty members will be relocated to the new facilities. Brooks offers degrees in the visual arts, and media.

The contract calls for the city to get more than $150,000 a year from Brooks for the use of the space.
