Charter Communications' purchase of Cox Communications means Cox will rebrand as Spectrum and add the SportsNet LA Dodgers channel.

Los Angeles Dodgers fans in Southern Santa Barbara County will soon be able to watch regular season games on TV for the first time since 2013.

That year, the Dodgers signed an $8 billion, 25-year deal with Time Warner Cable for exclusive rights to the games. At the time, Time Warner and Cox Cable couldn’t reach a deal on how much Cox would pay to bring the games to its subscribers. Cox has been the cable TV provider for southern Santa Barbara County.

That meant that Cox customers, they couldn't see games unless they were nationally televised.

But this month, regulators gave final approval for Charter Communications to buy Cox. As part of the deal, Cox Cable in Santa Barbara will assume Spectrum's national branding.

Existing Cox Cable Santa Barbara customers will get Dodgers games starting with Friday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Fans in Santa Barbara County will find the 24/7 home of the team, Spectrum SportsNet LA, on Channel 36.
